this surprised me actually.

dubstep is a kind of electronic music that is recently becoming popular especially in England. you can listen some of the latest experimental tracks from dubterrain radio;



and here is a dubstep remix of bat for lashes - daniel;

dnb(drum and bass) is another story. it is like a cousin to dubstep.. as the name implies it has fast breakbeats with heavy bass. example for some fantastic drum and bass;

My musical educations ended with Techo and Trance a few years back

Now, considering the music of choice, the type of game you'd be looking for would be in the Science Fiction gender. I'd say take a look at Otherspace.

Can't help you with a MUD suggestion, but after listening to some of this music you definitely should try playing Geometry Wars with the sound off and this on in the background.
