We run a rom 2.4 derivative so we display the credits to their team on our greeting screen. My question is are we doing this correctly. Here's the relevant sample from our greeting ASCII screen:
|| Original DikuMUD by Tom Madsen, Katya Nyoboe, Hans Staerfeldt, Michael || || Seifert and Sebastian Hammer. Based on Merc 2.1 code by Hatchet, Fury || || and Kahn. Rom 2.4 copyright (c) 1993-1994 Russ Taylor. Founded by || etc
Well anyway I've been wondering if this is sufficient? Too much? Not enough? I logged on a few muds to see what they do and it left me even more confused. Some places just credit russ taylor, others credit merc and rom creators and then the dikumud creators later at some point in creation. |

The ROM login credits must be placed on the greeting screen (the first screen you see, excepting one-line "Do you have color?" messages), and must be viewable on a 24-line terminal with no scrollback.
The Diku login credits can be placed anywhere in the login sequence, which generally means either the greeting screen or the motd. The Merc login credits are optional. Note that the above refers specifically to the login credits, not the internal credits, which are a different issue. The approach you have is probably the most common one, and is also the same as I used for my Diku derivatives. |

The "©" is pointless and questionable, especially once you've spelled out "Copyright".
Edit: I'm having trouble getting the forum to show OPEN_PARENTHESES C CLOSE PARENTHESES in the above sentence as you did in your example, and in my next sentence. You say "Rom 2.4 copyright © 1993-1994 Russ Taylor" My copy of ROM.LIC from 2.4 says "must contain a notice that it is based on ROM 2.4 beta, copyright 1993 - 1996 Russ Taylor", the differences being the presence of the word "beta" and the 1996 vs 1994. Maybe 2.4 was in alpha when you started, and that explains the earlier date and absence of "beta"? Stilton |

Well we opened in 1997.. I think we started from rom 2.3 and then rom 2.4 code was later pasted into the existing code. So the credit was changed by the imps back then to 2.4. In the period 2000-2001 we scrapped that mess and started over from a fresh rom 2.4, pasting in the changes we had made ourselves since 1997. Anyhow, looks like the credits have been displayed incorrectly for the past 6 years. The documents were missing from our doc folder so I just downloaded a stock rom and read them, and we're all tidied up now hopefully. Unless the source files need stuff pasted into them too, not sure about that yet.
edit.. here's a stock rom greeting
-1 GREETING~ . THIS IS A MUD BASED ON..... ROM Version 2.4 beta Original DikuMUD by Hans Staerfeldt, Katja Nyboe, Tom Madsen, Michael Seifert, and Sebastian Hammer Based on MERC 2.1 code by Hatchet, Furey, and Kahn ROM 2.4 copyright (c) 1993-1998 Russ Taylor By what name do you wish to be known? ~
Well there's a 1998 there, and a ©. Mighty odd. |
