I look kinda normal, but I'm not a fashion freak. Cut-off sweatpants and women's tank shirts in the summer, sweats in the winter unless I'm working, in which case I wear mostly long indian-embroidered dresses.

Little overweight but nothing that a weekly exercise regimen won't cure, no glasses (20/20 vision), no zits, two distinct eyebrows so the neanderthal thing ain't happenin either. Just kinda normal.

i am an indie rocker completely decked out in

- plain black tshirts and dark blue jeans

i own about 50 of each and wear them everyday. but hey, the guys in Tortoise dress like me and they are righteous.

by the way. great topic! i had to log in and post a response!

Pale, skinny, glasses.

I make lots of money and dress decently though.

Miyamoto 07-23-2002 11:36 AM

Before I criticize most mudders I know, I'll say that I have glasses and out of shape, though not fat, and though I try with some success to be cool, my ego is used to being popped.

That said, most of the people I meet on muds would either proudly classify themselves as either 'Normal' or 'Pierced'. The normal ones usually aren't. I go out of my way to not Really get to know the people I play with... I form mental images of them based on their behavior, and I've never had one surpassed, or even upheld, just shattered, and occasionally mercilessly trampled upon.

Rytorth 07-23-2002 01:18 PM

Skinny, glasses. Other then that, I look normal. I also wear comfortable clothes and they do have to meet certain standards before I wear them. I don't really get called names, unless the call-er is so immature they ought to be back in grade school. But my thin-ness is natural and without my glasses I can't see clearly more then a few inches in front of my nose. But overall, most people wouldn't even think I mud. I've got the only-nerds-mud and the girls-can't-mud predjudices working against me (or for me, depending on your point of view).

Feyona 07-23-2002 02:09 PM

Im a tad over weight. I dress nice when I am at my job but at home or around town i wear baggy Stuff and dont talk much. I was a nerd in high school and i never talked to anyone. But hey Im a badass Succubus now so dont F@#$ with me hehehe

I think Hannah posted this just so everyone would look at her pic and swoon. She's just looking down on all of us mere mortals.

I'm semi-normal. Sometimes I dress nice, sometimes I wear t-shirt and whatever, sometimes I wear frames for glasses so I look like I almost wear glasses. I take showers regularly, I do not smell, I clip my fingernails and toenails. I brush my teeth at least twice a day. I even shave and put on deoderant. One time I even changed my underwear.

KaVir 07-23-2002 03:54 PM

Can someone please define "normal"?

Dulan 07-23-2002 04:08 PM

Pale (Lemme 'splain ta ya somethin'. I'm mostly swedish and danish. Do I need to 'splain ta ya why I dun tan? Huh? Huh?), skinny to fair build, depending on season, and glasses only for computer work (Heh. I'm far-sighted. Very far-sighted.), and I only wear what is comfortable. I _do_ eat pizza and _drink_ coke (Unless you meant the other kind of coke. Silly person.) when I MUD, but oh lordie, I'm definitely not overweight.

So, which option do I fit under? Huh? Huh? And just what do you mean by normal? Do you mean N'Synch, Britney Spears, annoying, irritating, teen pop star normal? If so, then I think you are righteously deserving of a flame.

Thoric 07-23-2002 06:02 PM

I don't know if this is unique or common, since it wasn't a voting option...

I look like something between a rocker and a biker.

I have long hair, a mustache and a goatee.

I wear black jeans, black t-shirt, black Doc Martins and a black leather jacket when the weather is cool.

Oddly enough I don't really have any friends that look the same.

Quietude 07-23-2002 06:21 PM

I wear what I wear, I weigh what I weigh, I eat what I eat . . .

Part of the joys of being online is not judging people by their appearances, yes?

I find that the people I meet at real-life MUD gatherings are, by and large, no different in appearance than any random sampling of the population, except for being heavily weighted towards being white and male.

I'm skinny, but no glasses. I've been told I look like the bearded Lone Gunman from the X-files, except I don't wear a suit. I have somewhat good design sense, but I'm always either too poor or too lazy (or both) to apply it to clothes. Give me loose, functional pants and a t-shirt. I prefer theory to the technical side of life, but I'm definitely a nerd.

Brianna 07-24-2002 10:58 AM

I fall into the normal "range" if you consider a single mom of two a typical mudder. I have enjoyed mudding for the last 7-8 years and building for the last 5-6 of them. Its a fun way for me to escape with out actually leaving the house!!!! (Saves a fortune in baby sitting fees). For me, both mudding and building are creative outlets for me. It get to talk to people from around the world without killing my phone bill and have a great time doing so. Yes, I guess I fall into the addiction mode of it too...

Realedazed 07-27-2002 05:04 PM

Well I'm one of the three who said that they go to the gym regularly.

I don't really. I run, and work out at home.  I go to the gym when I get bored of my house.  Then I study for school, play on my muds and spend time with my bodyfriend or go to sleep.

I used to want to be a model, I kinda still do.  I have a portfolio and everything.  I went to modeling school when I was younger but after age 15 I stopped really pushing to reach that goal. I have my headshots and stuff just in case, you know.

Everyone is normal, it's everyone else that're the queers.
I'm under the normal category.

Nice interesting thread.

I'm one of those weird guys who wears all black and such. No piercings, they draw too much attention. As long as everyone thinks you're a good little christian, they're still prey.

Dauthi 08-02-2002 10:25 AM

I am normal, wear normal clothes, and have a normal life. In fact I am a jock and a scholar. I am on the speech team and am in training to get my high schools academic deploma, at the same time i am in sports... Mudders get stereotyped too often.

makila 08-12-2002 02:53 AM

Mudding isn't the same as being a nerd. On the contrary.
Mudding or playing online games is a way to escape reality and to relieve pressure of real life.
99% of the nerds "program" every day, brag about how much they study or what they know about computers or whatever, they don't "play games". Because if you play just games, you are no nerd anymore.
A lot of mudders are very shy people who can't express their feelings in rl, and use the mud to be more open and to express their feelings.

Nerds = Freaks
Muds = a way to escape rl.

Makila.

KaVir 08-12-2002 09:29 AM

In which case, they are nerds.

The Merriam-Webster Online dictionary definition of a "nerd" is "an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits"

The Merriam-Webster Online dictionary definition of a "nerd" is "an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits"

- unstylish : On the contrary.
- Unattractive : On the contrary, some girls say I am very handsome but I guess that's personal taste.
- socially inept person : I am very shy especially towards girls, I can't really express myself very well.
I love to go out and make new friends however and I go to the gym almost every day for the "chicks" *cackle*.
- especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits" : Eh? Studying what is that?
I am probably one of the laziest persons on earth(I am not joking)

I don't wear glasses, I am not pale(I have a nice brown color), however I am skinny.

Am I a nerd? *blink*

Mak.

Rocker chick here. If you had to classify i guess you could say indie or gods forbid emo.

Usualy wearin dark jeans, fitting button down shirts or plain black or white t-shirts. I do wear glasses or sometimes contacts. Depends on what I plan on doing for the day. I do have piercings and tattoo's. Usually wearing clunky shoes to make up for my shortness.

I wouldn't proudly classify myself as either normal or pierced. I'm just me. A lot of the time you can't even tell I have piercings or tattoo's. Most people wouldn't classify me as a nerd until they heard me talk about gaming or comics.

Ghardoan 09-30-2002 04:20 AM

I fall into the pale, thin category, alas. God knows why. I do a good fifty push-ups daily, yet I do not seem to gain an ounce of weight. My excuse for being pale? Hell, I live in Washington, and yes, I rarely leave my humble abode.

Other than these two factors, however, I am relatively "normal" for an eighteen-year-old male. Often found in public wearing a long, black leather trench coat, black jeans, and a gray tee shirt, people typically place me as a goth. I have little doubt that my silver cross and my silver loop in my left ear further contribute to this impression. In either case, when I am at home, I tend to dress quite differently, opting for a brightly colored dress shirt and a pair of baggy cargo pants. To summarize, I'm usually clothed in a tasteless manner twenty-four seven.

Appearance-wise, I suppose I would be considered average, or maybe even slightly attractive, with sharp, narrow features, a pretty clear (excluding stubble) complexion, and non-descript brown eyes. My hair, also a dark brown, is short, straight, and usually slicked down and parted in the middle.

I'm only taking the time to write this reply because I am bored, mind you. I suspect, however, that it will give the impression that I actually like talking about my pitiful, worthless self. Believe what you will.

You have not lived in Washington long enough to blame the look on the climate, Ghardoan!

Just wait. You haven't even seen the worst of it yet.

Lovelorn 10-09-2002 09:08 AM

I don't think I fit into any of the catagories exactly.  I might be a mishmash of a few. <g>  Due to my love for the color black clothing wise, and dark hair, fair skin; I've often been thought to be goth.  However, that couldn't be further from the truth.  Goth came long after my choice of attire became set...

I think the one that said they were somewhere in the middle of Nerd and Normal probably has me pegged best.  Although I've never figured out why intelligence somehow equated with nerdiness.
