I have converted a MUD world to HTML.
Hi,
I'm the former head coder of the Lands of Aethar, a SMAUG which ran 1994 to 2009. When it shut down, I used the data files to generate a snapshot of the world and put that up as HTML. The address is: I'm hoping that what this will do is encourage other MUD developers to embrace HTTP more. As long as we require people to use telnet clients, our potential players will be massively cut down. The Lands of Aethar isn't a full living breathing MUD, it's just a frozen ghost, but I hope by putting it up on HTTP like this, I'll at least give the non-telnet world a little more exposure to these wonderful old games. |

Idea is great. I will probably do about the same thing to my mud except it has ASCII map and it is almost real time generated or something. it would be cool.

Re: I have converted a MUD world to HTML.
I have always thought that it would be a great idea to find a way to create a solid enough app to run a MUD through a browser .. and then use Flash-Game design to create mini-games for crafting and various solo activities that could actually have affects integrated into the game itself.
It'd be a bit of work, but really, innovation and integration are the best friends of MUDs if they want to continue to grow and compete with MMOs. |

I am sure with minimal work, this could be somehow ported into Z code, and hence converted into a work of interactive fiction.
I have already modified an example RPG engine from INFORM7 to a much more detailed engine.. maybe an open source collaboration Here is the abilty to turn a work of IF into a webbased mutliuser realm and here is the tool to create the game Last edited by MudMann : 10-08-2009 at 05:25 AM. |
