Re: Using Triggers (Yay or Nay?)
Is not scripting subject to Darwinistic evolution anyway? If one group of players all equip themselves with the same script system then they will be vulnerable to some other "better" one developed by someone who has a better grip on how things are put together - in the same way that that group may have had an advantage over another group of players who do not have scripts to automate things.
If a MUD presents an advantage to botters then botting will happen, and if the MUD sysops don't want it to happen they have better design in things to trip those scripters up. |

Re: Using Triggers (Yay or Nay?)
I voted nothing against them but old way. That depends though on the mud. GateWay I have 5 actions only. It's a classic LP mud I've played since Jan. 1992. I started out actually typing n then Enter to move. That I don't do but actions aren't really needed there. OTOH Allandria/Rocky/MUME are Silly/Dikus and I could not play them without actions. Back in 1995 when I started Allandria I actually programmed my own SALT triggers in Telix because it was just impossible otherwise!
So I think it depends a lot on the MUD type. LP nay, Diku a must. |
